After much consideration, VTWB is officially suspending all operations until further notice.
Although many of us are vaccinated, we remain watchful of the ever-changing face of the pandemic and must consider those who don’t have access to vaccines or convenient medical care in the areas we serve. As much as we hate to be grounded, safety is our number one priority.
We’ll begin processing volunteer applications again when we feel it’s safe to resume our mission. We appreciate your patience and are deeply grateful to everyone who’s reached out to us (we are still accepting donations so we can hit the ground running when we start up again).
In the meantime, we encourage everyone to seek out volunteer opportunities in your own communities. More than ever, there are local shelters, community veterinary services, and rescue centers that need your help.
Take care everyone, be well, and we’ll see you soon!
My first trip with Vet Techs Without Borders to a spay and neuter clinic in Mexico. A total of 466 dogs and cats in 4 days!
It was amazing to be part of a team of hardworking and dedicated people. Can't wait until next year!
The clinic I worked for provided low or no cost to locals and held high-volume spay/neuter services at the shelter and in other communities throughout Costa Rica. Not only was I able to help many animals, but I was also immersed in a different culture and learned SO much more about veterinary medicine and how it's practiced in other countries.
My experience in Houston is something I will never forget, Being able to travel to a crisis area to help is the heart of why I became a technician. I saw the sick and scared become open and engaging as well as the lost be reunited and the homeless find family. I would do it all over in the blink of an eye.
In Guatemala, we got to participate in our first baby sea turtle release. It was an amazing and heartwarming thing to watch. It was an amazing experience to learn about another country while fulfilling our dream of traveling and helping many species of animals.
I had never treated primates before and being at an emergency clinic, I also came in contact with other Central American animals. It was fantastic to see the doctor give all animals a chance of survival, and he taught me how he used limited resources with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing animals. I was never short of being surrounded by amazing wildlife and beautiful scenery. It was a great experience which I will remember forever, and I highly recommend it.
